I was reading this post, belonging to Lisa of the little legs, link
In here she seems to have built some sort of delusion that everyone else is more intelligent than her. Calling Bozeman, "overeducated" and such, she goes on to talk about how she doesn't feel like she deserves her degree or something. Okay, I know she is ranting; Lisa, I know you are venting here, but I'm gonna bite at this one.
Responding to a rant is like kicking Hulk Hogan, it will only end with your death. Likewise, kicking at Lisa of the Little Legs will only end in your being beaten to death. This is truth, and from what I can gather, this has been the case for a long time, only now she has a bachelor's degree and on her way to a teaching career. This means she is now almost capable of killing you with her brain.
Although I understand her fervor, I fear that I may be one of the people she is referring to. There are no proper curricula to gauge this kind of accusation though, so I am going to continue on in blissful indifference.
The thing that gets me about this is its anger. It's a fucking ball-busting angry posting. It's also one of my favorite pieces that Lisa has written this semester and it touches on something kind of missed in class. Anger.
Anger is a sibling of fear, and much of what we have talked about in this class is fear. Fear of action, fear of pain, fear of change. But is anger a distraction?
Dr. Sexson cited that seething we do after we have a confrontation (why I shouldda!) as a distracting thought. It consumes the mind, lowers the IQ, and causes destruction. It is an a emotion that only causes pain and destruction.
But sometimes, sometimes... I think that can be a good thing. Take Hamlet, his uncle killed his father. Was it fear and anger that pushed him into apathy? Or was it fear without anger?
I read a book called, "Flags of our Fathers" a while back on an airplane which is the best place to read books about World Wars because in historical war books nothing happens on accident and if you are worried about being vaporized in an aluminum tube hurling into the Earth, books where everything happens because of some campaign or action are very comforting. That book told a tale of men driven by pure rage against another who, in turn, was fueled by nothing other than their anger. Hmmm... war. Maybe there is something to this whole anger is bad thing.
Anyway, Anger is an emotion I think everyone struggles with, however, like some emotions, is Fury something that can be molded to constructive ends? I mean anger can turn a person into a walking dynamo, a superman of sorts who can put up with pretty much anything. However, it can cloud the senses as well which is undeniably contrary to most epiphany. This is an odd one for me since it is not something that is directly addressed in our readings. Any suggestions on readings about anger would be much appreciated.
Lisa is angry about her own unsure feelings about what she is going into and where she has come from. I feel the same way. I suspect if we aren't afraid we are stupid at this point in our education. I think this is a good thing though. Sometimes anger, like humor, is the only reaction to terror or jealousy or just plain old general feelings of inadequacy.
Maybe anger is like an alarm, it wakes us up from sleep therefore it's important. However, who wants to go day in and out with their alarm ringing?
